MONDAY
The title of our Advent campaign this year is The Life Revealed. This year we are going to make camp in 1 John 1:1-4. This is not the Christmas story per se, but these few verses are directly related to the theology of the incarnation. Therefore, they are very Christmas-y in that sense. If you were hoping for a read through of the Christmas story from Matthew or Luke’s gospel, I am sorry to disappoint. I certainly encourage you to read through those as well.
These verses have captured my attention this year and I hope they do yours as well.
We will begin dissecting this passage tomorrow, but for today I’d encourage you to read over this passage slowly at least three times to familiarize yourself with it. Ask the Spirit of God to minister to you through these words. My prayer for us this Advent season is that these words would take root in your mind, heart and soul and grow into a fount of blessing in your life. Let’s meditate on God’s Word together.
1 John 1:1–4 (HCSB) 1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the Word of life— 2 that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us — 3 what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may have fellowship along with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
