Christ Supreme

Christ Supreme

FRIDAY

For the two weeks of the campaign, I want to emphasize worship in the devotional. Revelation is full of worship. I believe John received these visions and shared them as he did because he knew if Christians were to be faithful, allegiant, prophetic witnesses for Jesus in the shadow of empire, they needed to be worshippers. They needed to have this glorious picture of the exalted Christ and worship him as such to resist the counterfeit glory of the empire.

So, for these two weeks I am going to look at some texts that reveal the glory of God. Most of these will be texts referenced in Revelation that I didn’t have time to explore thoroughly. I am doing this with the sole intent of expanding your vision of God and his glory so that you will deepen your worship of Him. The application after each day’s devotional will be the same—worship God in light of his majesty revealed in this text.

Colossians 1:15–20 (NIV)

The Supremacy of the Son of God

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Ephesians 1:3–14 (NIV)

Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship  through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
