Good Father - Gospel Exposed

Good Father - Gospel Exposed

FRIDAY

Genesis 1-3 is our origin story and it is the origin of the fuller narrative of God’s salvation of His people. The Gospel gets exposed, here, as God covers and takes care of Adam and Eve in light of their sin. He approaches them through relationship, asking them where they’ve gone into hiding. He doesn’t scold. He doesn’t provoke fear. He asks them to come. He provides consequences. Notice, though, he does not rip them of their identity. He does not rip them of their purpose. In fact we see Eve gain her name, here. A name derived from her purpose and still a blessed one, at that. She will move forward in being the mother all living. He calls us by our name, not our sin.

God already had a plan of sacrifice as he cloaked them in skins and sent them out of the garden. Consequences, yes. A salvation from death, also yes. One that we are lucky enough to see on this side—Christ came down to us. “It is finished,” he proclaimed. So we can continue to move forward in our eternal identity and purpose—to be with Him. Sin doesn’t have to stop us. He calls us by our name. We do have to want this to be true. We do have to believe. We may not ever fully understand his audacious love, but we do need to come out of the bushes and believe he will cover us and take care of us like he did for them.

Adam and Eve get a bad rep in our Origin Story. But God also used them as the first examples of His great plan. In the first three chapters, there is an invitation to see God’s desire. God’s heart. Can you see it?
