Imago Dei - The Unique Creation

Imago Dei - The Unique Creation

Genesis 1:26-28 says, “Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of heaven and over the livestock and over all the earth over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

In God’s creation of humans, we find all of God (Father, Son, and Spirit) talking about what they are going to do. All of God wanted all of us. So special. It is also denoted by the first phrase of poetry written in the Bible. This is personal, it is tender, it communicates some sense of excitement, it shows a fatherly love who has a plan for us. A hope. Looking to create us for relationship with Him. WITH GOD.

Reflect on our core piece of identity that holds His image, the imago dei. Sometimes it is easy to craft our identities within our roles or achievements. How often to we come to the core of our self? Today consider how this soul, this imago dei of ourselves, is our deepest and fullest self. How may that fuel the rest of our lives—our perspectives, our decisions? And remember that this deepest and fullest self was already LOVED and WANTED by ALL OF GOD from the very beginning. How may that fuel you today?

I pray that the tenderness and thoughtfulness God had in creating us sinks into our minds and hearts today. That we would live out life through a lens of holding the Imago Dei today, regardless of our personal roles or responsibilities.
