Memorizing Scripture keeps truth close at all times
When we are tempted to believe or do things that are contrary to God’s Word, we must have God’s Word at the ready. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness he quoted Scripture to the devil in response. Jesus could have told the devil to scram on his own authority but he was setting an example for us as to the importance of knowing God’s Word and power of timely truth.
Memorization Suggestions
- Pick a passage of Scripture to memorize.
- Make flash cards.
- Cover certain words. The Logos Bible Software has a helpful memorization tool.
- Keep the verse on a paper in your pocket throughout the day to work on when you have a down moment.
- Ask someone else to quiz you.
