I’m Sorry

I’m Sorry

THURSDAY

We are all fallible humans. We will sin against God and others. Therefore, we must learn to say the difficult words, “I’m sorry.”

John writes to Christians imploring them to confess their sins to God. God who is faithful to his covenant promise to forgive those who are in Christ will certainly forgive. Confession then is to be a regular part of the Christian life.

1 John 1:8-10 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

We must also confess our sins to one another.

James 5:16a 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.

Confessing our sin is admitting the truth. It is aligning ourselves to God’s way. Living in the truth allows us to live in freedom in the light of Christ.

John 8:31–36 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Living in truth, the truth of the gospel of Christ, sets us free. One of the essential truths of the gospel is that we are sinners. So to live in freedom we must confess our sin to God, not ignore it, excuse it or cover it up.
