FRIDAY
This devotional is adapted from David Habrat’s sermon on Sunday June 29. Sorry, there is no audio version of the devotional this week. The Temple: Jesus the Truth
In the journey of faith, there are sacred spaces that transform our walk with God. Like the ancient tabernacle, our spiritual path leads us through distinct areas of encounter - each deeper than the last.
Many believers stop at the cross, continually identifying only as sinners saved by grace. While this foundation is essential, it's merely the beginning. When Jesus died, "the veil was torn in two" (Matthew 27:51), granting us unprecedented access to God's presence. We're invited not just to visit, but to dwell in the Holy of Holies.
In this innermost sanctuary, we encounter Jesus seated in glory as King. Here, we discover the profound truth of Psalm 91:1-2: "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.'"
This sacred space creates a divine collision - our humanity meeting Christ's divinity. Words become insufficient as intimacy with God deepens. As Isaiah 26:9 reminds us, "With my soul I have desired You in the night, yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early."
In these moments, we experience what Psalm 42:7 describes: "Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and billows have gone over me." Our spirit connects with God's Spirit in ways that transcend language.
Jesus embodies three essential elements for our spiritual journey:
Jesus is the Way - He calls us to "follow me" (Matthew 4:19). There is no alternative path to heaven, no other access to the Father. As we follow, He leads us through every valley and mountaintop experience.
Jesus is the Truth - As the incarnate Word of God, Jesus is the source of all truth. His words are "in season" (Isaiah 50:4), perfectly timed for our needs. When we listen attentively, His truth transforms our perspective.
Jesus is the Life - He laid down His life and took it up again (John 10:17-18). Through His resurrection power, we receive "life more abundantly" (John 10:10). In Him, we discover not just existence, but vibrant, purpose-filled living.
Today, let us move beyond the outer courts of religious activity and even past the holy place of spiritual disciplines. May we enter boldly into the Holy of Holies - that place of intimate communion where our deepest being connects with Christ Himself.
Lord Jesus, thank You for being our Way, our Truth, and our Life. Draw us deeper into Your presence today. Amen.
