Journal on this Election Season

Journal on this Election Season

FRIDAY

This week being our calm week, we are going to focus on a few practices that will help us remain faithful, allegiant, prophetic witnesses to our exalted King Jesus in the shadow of Babylon.

Throughout this campaign, Revelation has been challenging us to remain faithful, allegiant, prophetic witnesses to Jesus in the midst of Babylon. The pressure to cave to Babylon is never stronger than during an election season. Opinions are strong; stakes are high; tempers run hot. Today I’d like you to evaluate how you did this election season.

Journal on the following questions, now that this election season has come and gone.

  1. Did you experience love, joy, and peace in the sphere of politics?
  2. Did you represent Jesus well with your civic engagement?
    1. How did you love the least of these?
    2. How did you reveal love for those who have different political opinions than you? How did you think to them? How did you talk about them? How did you feel towards them?
    3. Did you genuinely pursue truth or just find information that you wanted to hear?
  3. If I were to ask your closest friends and family, would they say it was obvious that your primary allegiance is to the kingdom of God in how you interacted with politics in this season? (maybe ask them)
  4. Evaluate your response to the election results:
    1. If you supported Trump, how did your joy at his victory compare with your joy at participating in the kingdom of God?
    2. If you didn’t support Trump, did your fear, anxiety, worry, or concern overwhelm your hope, joy, and peace in the kingdom of God?
