Friday: Praise the LORD

To finish up the chapter the psalmist reiterates his praise to God. He calls all of his creation, including the angels, the divine council, and his own soul, to praise the LORD.

Psalm 103:20–22

20 Praise the LORD, you his angels,

you mighty ones who do his bidding,

who obey his word.

21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,

you his servants who do his will.

22 Praise the LORD, all his works

everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the LORD, my soul.

Praise, the psalmist declares, is the proper response to God's hesed. This is the point of the whole psalm. It is bookended with the phrase "Praise the LORD, my soul." In the middle we see that we should praise God because of his hesed that he demonstrates to us as individuals, our faith community as God's chosen people, all of humanity and all of creation. God's unfailing love is greater than we can ever imagine and far beyond anything we deserve from God. This psalm contains rich theology of the state of humanity juxtaposed with the goodness and glory of God.

Prayer

Pray this Psalm. Psalm 103

Then spend some time putting these themes we've talked about this week into your own words. Praise God for the blessings he has given to you individually (v. 1-5). Praise God for his love and faithfulness towards the church (v. 6-12). Praise God for his love towards fallen, frail and fallible humanity (v. 13-19).
