Friday Nov. 27: Private Worship — personal worship

By now you've planned a time and a location. You've thought through how to silence our inner thoughts and how to focus on God's presence with us. You've planned whether or not to have music and how to express your praise to God for who he is and what he has done.

Today's portion will be more unique to you depending on what is going on in your life at this time, what you're thinking through, what you're reading in Scripture, what God is convicting you of, etc.

  1. Thank God for his covenant faithfulness, his kindness, his blessing to you. Here you can draw from past events like you wrote down on Monday, but it's better to think of recent things.
  2. What have you been struggling with lately? Fear? Anxiety? Worry? Anger? How do those emotions look in light of who God is and what he has done (as you've just prayed, see yesterday).
  3. What have you been studying lately? For example: in our redeeming work series we talked about how God is more concerned with who he has called you to be than what he has called you to do. Thank him for his acceptance and adoption of you regardless of what you do for him.
  4. Sit in silence and ask God to reveal anything he wants to tell you: conviction of sin, forgiveness of sin, comfort in his faithfulness, reassurance of your identity in Christ, etc.

If you've been following along this whole week you should be set to begin practicing private worship. Remember these are all just suggestions. I tried to give you some of the basic components that you should think about as you begin this practice. This is an art so make it work for how you best relate to God. Remember this is about centering our private worship! It's about God, and worship of him. Worship him as best you can, in everything you do, especially in these sacred, quiet moments with him.
